Accessibility statement
Last updated: 4 October 2026
"The Zionist Time Machine" is a public educational website. We want everyone — including people with disabilities — to be able to take this journey through Israel's history equally, with dignity and independently.
Conformance level
The site was designed and built to conform with Israeli Standard IS 5568 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at level AA, as required by Israel's Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Service Accessibility Adjustments) Regulations, 2013.
What we did
- Full keyboard operation: the year dial works with the arrow keys, Home/End and Page Up/Page Down; every control is reachable with Tab and has a clear focus outline; Escape closes any window.
- Screen reader support: a logical heading structure, labels on every control, and announcements of the selected year and of the captions during a chapter.
- Full captions for every narration and every historic radio recording, plus the full text of each chapter on the page.
- Colour contrast at level AA, and text that can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content.
- An "Enter without sound" mode, a permanent mute button, and the ability to pause any narration or chapter.
- The operating system's "reduce motion" setting is respected: animation, static noise and photo motion are turned off.
- Fully responsive on phones and tablets, with touch targets of at least 44 pixels.
- The site is available in Hebrew and English.
Known limitations
- Songs and some documentary films are embedded from YouTube; their accessibility depends on YouTube's player.
- Some historic radio recordings have low audio quality (as originally recorded); all of them are transcribed on screen.
- Archival photos are shown with full captions; some descriptions may not mention every detail in the photo.
